Today we are going to talk about mental illness and very special book Welcome to California: From L.A. County Jail to #1 in Sales, written by an amazing Canadian Author, Sandra LA Boszko.

But first, did you know Mental illness indirectly affects all Canadians at some time through a family member, friend or colleague. And in any given year, one in five Canadians will personally experience a mental health problem or illness.

Welcome To California - Canada's Must Read Book On Mental Illness

Mental illness affects people of all ages, education, income levels, and cultures. Approximately 8% of adults will experience major depression at some time in their lives. And about 1% of Canadians will experience bipolar disorder (or “manic depression”).

In Welcome To California, the author painted a vivid picture of what it felt like to be confused and locked in a cold jail cell in a foreign country. The book gave me a great understanding of what goes on in the mind of someone suffering from mental health.

Welcome To California - Canada's Must Read Book On Mental Illness

Welcome to California is a book I highly recommend everyone read especially those struggling with mental health. Health Canada reports by age forty, about fifty percent of the Canadians will have or have had a mental illness.

After reading Welcome To California, I had a deep sense of empathy for the author and found her words to be profound and comforting to anyone struggling with mental illness. What was most surprising about Welcome to California was the lack of understanding of mental illness by the correctional officers towards people within the prison system.

Welcome to California is another shining example of Canadian excellence in non fiction literature and is a must read.
