During the evening of July 8, 2020, a 24-year-old male was walking in the 3500 block of Portage Avenue when a man in a vehicle approached him. The suspect provided a fictitious story about needing money to help travel with his family to the Halifax area and displayed what he claimed was gold worth between $5,000 and $10,000. After hearing the story, the Good Samaritan offered to assist and purchased a significant number of gift cards for the suspect in exchange for the gold.
