Until Next February…

A poem honoring Black History Month

February is the month
When Black stories can be held high
When both culture and history
Are presented in great supply

The folktales of the peoples
The spirits of the land
‘Bout the animals and rivers
And the plants o’African

There’s tales of Anansi,
The ever tricky spider
Teaching youth to be quite couth
Yet still smart and ever wiser

The foods are too delicious
That are of black origin;
From jolif rice to potent spice
Like jerk, sumac  cajun

In this month we say thank you
As we honour and highlight our best
Until next years February
We shall not forget
