Takeoff, Member Of Hip Hop Group Migos, Dead At 28

Takeoff becomes the latest statistic of high profile Hip Hop artists killed by gun violence

Migos is a hip-hop group from the Atlanta area. The group consists of three rappers: Offset, Takeoff and Quavo. They are known for their hit single Bad and Boujee debuting in 2016, making the trio one of the most popular groups in the nation.

Takeoff, the 28-year-old Georgian rapper, Kirshnik Khari Ball, was shot dead at a venue for bowling and pool early Tuesday morning in Houston, Texas. According to Houston Police Department, they were responding to a call of shots fired within the downtown region. Upon arrival, Takeoff was found dead at the scene of the shooting, while two other victims were taken to hospital.

Police are still investigating what led to the Atlanta rapper’s tragic shooting. Takeoff becomes another grim statistic of rappers being fatally shot at a young age within the last year. Just alone in 2022, there have been eight high-profile rappers killed, including Snootie Wild, Archie Eversole, Sidhu Moose Wala, Trouble, JayDaYoungan and PnB Rock.

If you go back, the first significant killing of a well-known rapper would be that of Dj Scott La Rock, one of the founding members of the Boogie Down Productions, led by the iconic Hip Hop legend K.R.S. One.

In 1987, La Rock in his Jeep with his bodyguard driving from home in projects where bullets reigned down his vehicle and one hit him in the back of the head. La Rock was rushed to the local hospital and died on the operating table. Since then, there have been 59 reported shootings leading to the death of the biggest names in Hip Hop, including Tupac, The Notorious BIG, Houdini, Big L, Freaky Tah, Jam Master J, and recently Nipsey Hussle.

Takeoff’s death has hit the Hip Hop community hard, and the solution to the nonstop assault on rappers is still unknown. One of the most iconic lyrics in Hip Hop is “More Money More Problems,” which seems to be the case.
