More than $17.8 million for water infrastructure in Saint-Pierre-les-Becquets

On behalf of the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Ms.  Andrée Laforest, the MNA for Nicolet-Bécancour, Mr. Donald Martel, is pleased to announce an unprecedented investment of $17,858,789 has been granted to the Municipality of Saint-Pierre-les-Becquets for the construction, expansion and repair of water infrastructures.

The work is aimed in particular at treating wastewater from the urban sector of the municipality by installing an aerated earthen pond-type treatment plant as well as installing three pumping stations. What’s more, this major project will allow the Municipality to replace obsolete pipes and extend the sewer network to connect more than twenty residences along routes 132 and 218.

“In all regions of Quebec, our government supports projects dedicated to improving water infrastructure to provide Quebecers with facilities that guarantee a healthy and safe environment. By granting more than $17.8 million today to Saint-Pierre-les-Becquets, we are enabling the Municipality to ensure the sustainability of a quality living environment and I am proud of that.” Andrée Laforest, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing

“It’s a beautiful and big project that is taking shape today in Saint-Pierre-les-Becquets. It is important to emphasize that the unprecedented aid granted will reduce the discharge of wastewater into the environment. As the MNA for Nicolet-Bécancour, I am delighted with the implementation of this project, the benefits of which will benefit not only hundreds of citizens of this municipality but also the community as a whole. ” Donald Martel , MP for Nicolet-Bécancour

“It is with emotion and pride that I announce that after more than four years of hard work, we are finally going to undertake the wastewater treatment project. A special thank you to our government and to the entire Municipality team for their exceptional dedication.” Éric Dupont, Mayor of Saint-Pierre-les-Becquets

The financial assistance comes from sub-component 1.2 of the Municipal Water Infrastructure Program  , which stems from the Plan québécois des infrastructures   (PQI) 2021-2031.

The Ministère des Transports (MTQ) is also contributing financially to the project for an amount of $5.5 million. This investment will be used for the complete repair of the pavement structure over 2.3 kilometers on routes 132 and 218, the replacement of the storm sewer and the paving.

The 2021-2031 QIP provides for investments of more than $7.6 billion in the municipal infrastructure sector, under the responsibility of the Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l’Habitation (MAMH).
