The 18-year-old son of Los Angeles Lakers basketball star Lebron James has suffered a cardiac event yesterday.

Lebron Raymone “Bronny” James Jr. suffered a cardiac arrest yesterday during basketball practice with his team at the University of Southern California (USC). He was taken to the hospital and is now in stable condition and is out of the intensive care unit (ICU). A spokesperson said, “LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes.”

The cause is unknown now; however, it has raised questions about why young, seemingly healthy athletes have these events happen. The American Heart Association has said that it can occur when the “heart malfunctions and stops beating unexpectedly.”

This isn’t the first time a player from USC has suffered a cardiac event. Last summer, a freshman on the team also went into cardiac arrest a practice.

Bronny James has had a successful career in basketball so far. He started by playing different sports as a child, but basketball was the sport that stuck. By age 10, he was gaining some attention for his advanced skills and highlights as a youth player.

He played for many school and club basketball teams as he grew up. He was seen as a division one prospect early in his career, reportedly receiving offers from top colleges like Duke and Kentucky. His accomplishments included playing in the McDonalds All American Game and was selected to the Nike Hoops Summit Team for the United States.

Support for Bronny and his family continues to pour in as everyone can hope Bronny will make a fast recovery and be able to demonstrate his hard work on the courts once again.
