After US President Joe Biden announced the removal of all military forces in Afghanistan back in April 2021, it not only sparked a state of chaos within the country, it also signaled the official take over by the Taliban.

In addition to the current disorder of the Afghan government, and the thousands of civilian casualties which resulted from constant fighting, the Taliban shut down internet services in the city of Kabul, and is gradually doing the same in other parts of the country.

By Cutting the only connection between the Afghan people and the rest of the world, it is not only a violation of people’s freedom of speech, but it also gives Taliban the liberty to act with impunity without facing any consequences.

Many people around the world and humanitarian organizations such as the UN Crisis Relief are concerned with how the people are being treated, especially the treatment of women. Considering the complicated history of women rights in Afghanistan, and how they were able to win back some of these rights, after the Taliban deprived women of their freedom in the 1990s.

We can only hope that the future of Afghanistan is going to improve, and the people will reclaim their basic human rights. Having a fair ruling government that ensures the safety and well-being of its nation is a must.
