Argentinian Captain Messi, Chases Elusive World Cup Championship

Qatar World Cup Finals Set, defending champions France, Versus Lionel Messi’s Argentina. The Argentinian team held off a valiant effort by the cinderella team of the tournament Morocco. The first Arab and African nation to reach a World Cup semifinal.

Argentina striker Lionel Messi is a contender for the Golden Boot after scoring five goals and adding four assists at this year’s World Cup. With the World Cup trophy missing from his cabinet, Messi has never truly been considered on par with Diego Maradona, but he equalled Argentina’s last grandstanding of 21 appearances and eight goals at the final against Mexico.

Eight years ago, Messi took Argentina’s pre-tournament favourites into the World Cup finals but lost to Germany. This time, he has the supporting cast in place and a tactically sharp manager in Lionel Scaloni, guiding them into another final in Qatar. Croatian manager Zlatko Dalic has spoken highly of Messi as the best player in the world, saying he has made all the difference. Sunday’s World Cup final may be Argentina’s talisman and captain’s final appearance in the World Cup, with the Paris Saint-Germain striker suggesting that the 2022 edition would be his last.

France meets Argentina in four days at the Estadio Lusail, and Morocco faces Croatia on Saturday in the third-place playoff match at Khalifa International Stadium. France has the chance to do the impossible, which is winning back-to-back championships. This accomplishment has yet to be done since Brazil in 1958 and 1962.
