Since March of this year alone, he has effortlessly fulfilled over eighty commissions. His clientele is as diverse as his palette, ranging from government offices and prominent local businesses to everyday citizens desperate to hang a piece of his magic in their homes. What truly leaves critics breathless is the speed of his genius. A typical oil painting is brought to breathtaking life in roughly two hours.

His journey to this elite level of technical execution is a story steeped in discipline and raw natural talent. Born in Altay Xinjiang, celebrated as the legendary snow capital, Zhao felt the pull of the visual arts long before he ever considered a professional career. As a youth, he chose to observe the world through the quiet focus of his own imagination. A pivotal childhood memory cemented his path when his father took him to the studio of a local bronze sculptor, where young Weiming stood transfixed by the artist capturing a live model with a few swift and confident strokes. That foundational spark ignited a deep passion, though the natural transitions of growing up eventually led him away from the brush at nineteen.

The artist inside him went dormant, but it was never extinguished. His path led him to Canada as an international student in 1991. He arrived carrying a wealth of experience as a former high school teacher, backed by formal academic degrees in psychology and sociology. McGill University recognized his brilliance and accepted him for advanced studies. However, with family ties taking root in Western Canada, he made the selfless decision to decline the prestigious offer to build a life closer to his loved ones. Building a life in a new country involved hard work and dedication. He took on various positions, spent time supporting residents in a group home, and finally found stability in a career spanning a quarter century as an educational assistant within the Brandon School Division.

It was during these years of steadfast employment that the dormant spark roared back to life. At the age of forty three, Zhao picked up his brushes once more, and he simply could not stop. What makes him extraordinary is how he forged a legendary fine art practice in the margins of a demanding full time career. Through sheer force of will, he painted more than eight thousand pieces over the decades. The momentum has only accelerated since his retirement. Counting from just March 19 of this year, he has already completed over 220 individual oil paintings.

Despite the staggering output, there is an authentic humility to the man that completely defies the traditional ego of a celebrated artist. He paints out of a deep driving compulsion and a profound love for his surroundings. He adores the distinctive landscape of Manitoba, finding endless inspiration in the rolling vistas of Riding Mountain National Park and the vibrant architectural textures of Winnipeg. When asked to name his favourite piece among the thousands he has created, Zhao humbly deflects. He insists there have been so many that he holds no specific favourites. However, a soft nostalgia surfaces when he speaks of his travels to England. He fondly recalls setting up his easel along the banks of the River Thames. If pressed to choose, he admits those particular works hold a cherished place in his heart. That preference has nothing to do with the fame of the location, but rather the destination of the art itself. The painting he created by the Thames was presented to one of the most special people in his entire life, his daughter.

His journey with the English language mirrors his journey with the brush. Entirely self taught since 1978, he has proven time and again that obstacles are merely puzzles to solve.
