2023 African Writers Conference in the Gold Coast

This year’s theme will revolve around artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on the writing craft.

The annual African Writers Conference (AWC) is a gathering of literary enthusiasts and stakeholders with the aim of broadening the horizons of African literature. The event is hosted in a different African country each year, and for the 2023 edition, Ghana has been chosen to host the conference.

Like previous editions, AWC 2023 will bring together a diverse group of writers from across the continent to discuss and explore various aspects of African literature. The event will be hosted by the Ghanaian chapter of Writers Space Africa (WSA-Ghana), an organization that promotes literature and writing in Ghana and Africa. Their goal is to create a supportive and collaborative community of writers.

The conference will take place in Accra in November and will run for 4 days. This year’s theme will revolve around artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on the writing craft. With technological advancements and AI becoming increasingly prevalent, the conference aims to highlight ways in which writers can utilize AI to improve their craft rather than viewing it as a threat.

The conference will feature a diverse range of speakers, including established and emerging writers, literary scholars, publishers, and literary agents. Attendees can expect panel discussions, keynote speeches, workshops, and networking events. Topics covered will include the state of African literature today, the challenges and opportunities facing African writers, the role of technology in shaping African literature, and the future of the writing and publishing industry.

See you in Accra!
