With the pandemic, a surge of solidarity was felt throughout Quebec and highlighted the generosity of Quebeckers. Many people have, for example, lent a helping hand to community organizations by using the JeBénévole.ca platform.

It should be remembered that the main purpose of this week is to make the population aware of the difficulties experienced by people living in poverty and social exclusion, to fight against the prejudices of which they are sometimes victims and to ensure their respect.

Solidarity Week helps promote the commitment of citizens, the will of businesses in the fight against prejudices and social inequalities, the presence of volunteers and the essential nature of the work and expertise of the community organizations present. across Quebec to meet the needs of people in vulnerable situations. And this is even truer in the context of the health crisis of COVID-19.

“Solidarity is one of the keys allowing us to get through the current crisis. Let us show solidarity in respecting the sanitary instructions. Let us show solidarity with our fellow citizens in a situation of poverty and social exclusion. Let us stand in solidarity with our workers and our companies, which must face great challenges in these difficult times.

Current events show without a doubt that solidarity is an integral part of the DNA of Quebeckers. Thanks to the gestures of solidarity that we are taking in our communities, with our fellow citizens, we are all taking concrete action together with the sole aim of getting through this unprecedented crisis. ” Jean Boulet , Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Solidarity and Minister responsible for the Mauricie region

This period coincides with the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, which takes place annually on October 17.
