Congressional Delegation In Israel To Mark 75 Years Since The Liberation Of Auschwitz

Jerusalem – Speaker Nancy Pelosi and a bipartisan Congressional delegation arrived in Israel and conducted several meetings with top Israeli government officials Wednesday as part of the delegation’s visit to mark the observance of 75 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

The delegation was warmly received today in several meetings with top Israeli government officials as we mark 75 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.  In the morning the delegation met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu where we discussed regional security threats and cooperation.

Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein graciously hosted the delegation for a working lunch with a diverse group of Members of the Knesset, allowing for an important opportunity to advance interparliamentary dialogue.  The delegation also met today with experts to discuss unresolved issues 75 years after the liberation of Auschwitz, including Holocaust education and countering anti-Semitism.

In the evening, Speaker Pelosi represented the United States at a state dinner hosted by Israeli President Reuven Rivlin for heads of state, government and parliament, where they were inspired by the remarks of President Rivlin, King Felipe VI of Spain and Dr. Moshe Kantor, President of the World Holocaust Forum.  Tomorrow, the delegation will attend the Fifth World Holocaust Forum at Yad Vashem.”
