2nd Anniversary Of The Humboldt Broncos Deadly Bus Crash That Took The Lives Of Sixteen Hockey Stars

Today marks the second anniversary of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash that devasted a community and left the country in mourning.

Two years ago, 16 lives were lost, 13 injured and many more were changed forever, following a tragic highway crash involving the Humboldt Broncos hockey team.

“Today, I encourage Canadians to take a moment to think of the families and friends who lost loved ones, and the many people who continue to heal from the trauma and injuries caused by the accident. As they work through feelings of loss, grief, and anger, we join them to mourn the lives lost too soon.

“The recovery of the Humboldt Broncos community from this devastating loss demonstrates its strength and resilience, and the incredible compassion that Canadians have for each other. The outpouring of support from across the country will never be forgotten. We will remember the jerseys worn by countless Canadians, the hockey sticks placed outside front doors from coast to coast to coast, and the donations raised to help the families and survivors.” said Prime Minister Trudeau

“Since that terrible day, we have seen heartbreak, struggle, grit, and a heroic level of courage. We’ve witnessed the resolve of survivors to rebuild their lives and live in tribute to those who were lost. Canadians gave generously to Broncos families, and the crash inspired more than 150,000 people to register as organ donors.

“Humboldt’s tragedy was one to which Albertans, Canadians and people around the world felt a personal connection. Humboldt’s legacy – of unity, of compassion, of giving – is one we can all embrace, a much-needed lesson of resilience for our own challenging times. Said Premier Kenney

As we mark this sad anniversary, we thank the Humboldt Broncos community for the grace they showed in the depths of grief, and the message of hope and love that they continue to share.
