Winnipeg Man Charged With Attempted Murder At Storage Facility

According to Police, the struggle was between two business partners looking to dissolve their partnership

On December 20, 2022, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a storage facility in the 1000 block of Elgin Avenue for the report of a male who had been shot.

Officers from the Central and West Districts, assisted by the Tactical Support Unit (TAC), attended and located a suspect attempting to flee the property in a vehicle. TAC officers safely placed the suspect under arrest without incident.

Officers located a 28-year-old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower body. He was transported to hospital in stable condition, receiving medical attention for his injury. Officers located and seized a loaded .22 calibre rifle on the property as evidence.

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and learned the suspect and the victim were involved in a dissolving business partnership. The suspect attended the business, approached the victim and discharged a firearm in his direction. The firearm was again discharged during an ensuing struggle, causing the victim’s lower-body injury. With the assistance of a bystander who intervened, the suspect was disarmed, and the firearm was secured. The suspect subsequently fled to his vehicle while threatening to kill the victim.

Dharam SINGH, 27, of Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:

– Attempt to Commit Murder
– Pointing a Firearm
– Discharge a Firearm with Intent
– Utter Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm

He was detained in custody
