The Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment to work collaboratively with Premier Cochrane and the Government of the Northwest Territories.

The Prime Minister affirmed the Government of Canada’s commitment to continued support for Canada’s Arctic and northern regions. He also thanked the Premier for her government’s collaboration on advancing the important work of reconciliation and other key initiatives.

The Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister, and the Premier affirmed their shared commitment to ongoing bilateral work on the implementation of the Arctic and Northern Policy Framework. They also affirmed their commitment to other shared priorities – including sustainable economic growth, continued support for Indigenous governance through land claims and self-governing agreements, health, and strategic infrastructure – to meet the Northwest Territories’ unique needs and realities.

They agreed to continue to collaborate on these important priorities, and looked forward to meeting again once the Government of the Northwest Territories releases its new mandate in the coming months, and at the next First Ministers’ Meeting.
