Quebec report on Sexual Assault And Domestic Violence made 190 recommendations prompting the need for a more specialized judicial structure for these issues.
TDS News – The Minister of Justice and Attorney General for Quebec, Simon Jolin-Barrette, announced the establishment of a working group following the tabling of the report of the Committee of Experts on support for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.
In light of the report’s recommendations, this working group’s mandate is to improve the support and experience of people who are victims of sexual assault or domestic violence in the legal process. In particular, it will have to evaluate and concretely determine the elements necessary for the establishment of a specialized tribunal in matters of sexual assault and domestic violence in Quebec.
This group is made up of representatives of the main partners of the justice system, namely:
- the Ministry of Justice;
- the Ministry of Public Security;
- the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions;
- the Legal Services Commission;
- the Court of Quebec.
“Our government is keen to strengthen public confidence in the justice system, and this requires better support for victims and improving their experience. The establishment of a specialized tribunal for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence is an important measure for the Government of Quebec, which deserves to be studied.” Simon Jolin-Barrette , Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Quebec

The members of the working group will analyze the possible solutions surrounding the setting up of a project of this scope. The justice system in Quebec can do better and aims to take the necessary measures in this regard.
The report of the Committee of Experts on support for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence outlines the issues to be considered in order to offer more effective services in the system. judicial, for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.
It includes 190 recommendations. It was produced by the Committee of Experts on Support for Victims of Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence, formed in March 2019.
