QUEBEC, – On the occasion of the Strategic Forum on Tourism, organized as part of the Relançons MTL movement, the Minister of Tourism, Caroline Proulx, announced additional support $ 4.5 million to support the industry and promote tourism revival in the Montreal region. This investment brings the Quebec government’s assistance to specifically support the Montreal tourism industry to a total of $ 19.5 million.

Development of the tourist offer

A new investment of $ 3 million will allow Tourisme Montréal to develop the role of the metropolis as a gateway to Quebec. These sums will support projects that will promote the discovery of regional tourist attractions, all with a view to dynamic economic recovery.

The main objectives are:

  • increase the vitality of the tourism offer in Montreal and all regions of Quebec;
  • facilitate access to the various tourist regions of Quebec from the strategic gateway that is Montreal.

Direct support to organizations and businesses

Tourisme Montréal is also awarded a sum of nearly $ 1.5 million under the 2020-2022 Regional Tourism Partnership Agreement (EPRT). This aims to provide direct support to tourism organizations and businesses through three components: emergency support for the implementation of health measures; support for collective projects to adapt to new realities linked to the pandemic; support for development and structuring projects for the regional tourist offer.

It should be noted that, as part of the additional support measures announced by the Minister of Tourism on November 18, Tourisme Montréal will be allocated $ 12.5 million for the implementation of the new EPRT component intended to maintain assets for tourist gateways to Quebec.

Also announced last week, a sum of $ 2.5 million will be devoted to the revival of business tourism in the metropolis.

“Like many metropolises around the world, Montreal is particularly affected by the effects of the pandemic. However, the success of our tourism revival will inevitably depend on the strength and dynamism of our metropolis, the main gateway for tourists and conventioneers arriving from other Canadian provinces and abroad.

Maintaining the gains and continuing to improve the tourist offer in Montreal are priorities. The new amounts announced today are in addition to the many actions taken to date. Our support is in line with the courses of action targeted by the Montreal tourist community and shows our firm desire to be present for Montreal, now and beyond the crisis. ” Caroline Proulx , Minister of Tourism
