Quebec Allocates $3 Million To Preserve Quebec Wildlife

The funds will help the conservation of wildlife species in precarious situations

In continuity with its 2021-2022 budget commitment to invest $12.2 million in the protection of wildlife capital, the Quebec government is granting a grant of $3 million to the Fondation de la faune du Québec for the conservation of wildlife species in precarious situations and their habitats. This financial support, announced by the Minister of Forests, Wildlife and Parks and the Minister responsible for the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region and the Nord-du-Québec region, Mr. Pierre Dufour, is planned for five years. , i.e. until 2026.

Responsible for wildlife species in a precarious situation and their habitats, the Ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs has developed close partnerships with third parties, including the Foundation. Its fruitful collaboration with the Foundation has also proven itself within the framework of a first agreement which was in effect from 2018 to 2021. The grant awarded will make it possible to continue this collaboration and is part of the implementation of national and international commitments to protect biodiversity in Quebec.

In concrete terms, the sums paid will be used to finance activities or projects eligible for conservation programs managed by the Foundation. Among these programs are:

• “Endangered Wildlife”;
• “Wildlife-Forest”;
• “Enhancement of biodiversity in the agricultural environment”;
• any other program of the Foundation which makes it possible to achieve the objectives pursued.
