Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of the massive social network site “Facebook,” has announced the changing of his company’s name to “Meta” to take his company into a new era of social networking.

You might be wondering what “Meta” stands for. It is derived from a new technology developed by Facebook dubbed “metaverse,” which will alter the structure of social networking sites in the future to allow for better user interactions. On the other hand, the British newspaper the Guardian said that the announcement has sparked a state of discontent and astonishment.

According to the Guardian, the name comes in light of the company’s recent propaganda difficulties, as well as a series of recently leaked documents known as the Facebook papers, which detailed the company’s internal activities in light of allegations made by a former employee.

“The alleged name change was nothing more than an effort to confuse and distract but ultimately won’t erase years of devious practices & disregard for privacy, kids’ wellbeing, spreading hate, & genocide.” Said Senator Richard Blumenthal

Moreover, Progressive Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, commented that Meta is a cancer of democracy. Meta is facing the challenge of convincing investors, employees and consumers that changing the name is not aimed at improving its bad reputation, but rather because of its big aspirations that go beyond its social media platforms.
