I Declare The Olympic Games Open

The world welcomes its second COVID-19 pandemic Olympic games

The world has welcomed its second COVID-19 Olympics within two years. The four-hour opening ceremony filled with performances and music on a smaller scale kicked off the start of the Beijing Olympic games today. This goes to show that humans can persevere in the face of hardships and come together to celebrate the friendly competition.

“Today, thanks to this ambition, China is a winter sport country. Well over 300 million people are engaged in winter sports in about 2,000 ski resorts and ice rinks.

This extraordinary achievement opens a new era for global winter sport. It will raise the global participation to new levels, benefiting the Chinese people as well as winter sport enthusiasts around the world.

We can only write this new chapter in sporting history, because of our gracious hosts – the Chinese people, whom we thank wholeheartedly for welcoming us all so warmly. Thank you, our Chinese friends!” Said Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee

“Over the next two weeks, 215 Team Canada athletes will boldly and bravely compete in 15 sports to make their mark in Olympic history. Hailing from across the country, they represent the diversity that Canada so proudly stands for and remind us that excellence isn’t restricted by age, background, or geography – excellence can come from anywhere. Said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

The Olympics is a time for nations to come together and engage in friendly competition while celebrating their country. Whether friends or foes or standing on the brink of war, the Olympic stage was seen as neutral grounds. And Olympic victories by the best athletes can be seen as moral victories, especially for countries wrapped in conflicts.
