Government Reaches a Tentative Agreement for the Police Operations Support Group

The Government of Canada recently announced that it had reached a tentative agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Local 104, for the Police Operations Support (PO) group. Once ratified, this agreement will significantly impact approximately 1,050 RCMP civilian members and federal public service employees who provide crucial support to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in terms of telecommunications and intercept monitoring services.

The tentative agreement encompasses various aspects that aim to benefit the employees within the Police Operations Support group. It includes general economic and group-specific increases that will be in effect until the end of 2025. Employees can expect to witness wage enhancements and other benefits within agreed-to timelines upon approval.

As part of the tentative agreement, general economic increases will be implemented to boost the remuneration of the employees within the Police Operations Support group. These increases reflect the government’s commitment to recognizing the valuable contributions made by these individuals.

In addition to general economic increases, the tentative agreement also incorporates group-specific increases. These increases are tailored to address the unique needs and requirements of the employees within the Police Operations Support group. By recognizing the specialized nature of their roles, the agreement seeks to offer fair compensation and benefits that align with the specific responsibilities undertaken by these individuals.

The tentative agreement not only focuses on financial aspects but also emphasizes the importance of employee well-being. Apart from wage enhancements, employees can look forward to other benefits contributing to their overall job satisfaction and quality of life. The agreement ensures that employees receive the support they need to excel in their roles and serve the Canadian public effectively.

The Government of Canada says it remains committed to reaching collective agreements that are fair for employees and reasonable for Canadians. In the case of the Police Operations Support group, both parties involved in the negotiation process were willing to collaborate and work towards addressing key priorities.

Mona Fortier, President of the Treasury Board, expressed gratitude towards CUPE Local 104 for their collaborative approach during the bargaining process. Their willingness to engage in meaningful discussions was crucial in reaching a tentative agreement that is fair to employees and reasonable to Canadians. This partnership sets a positive precedent for future negotiations and underscores the importance of cooperation for all parties involved.

Mike Duheme, RCMP Commissioner, also emphasized the significance of this agreement for the employees in the PO Group. He expressed the RCMP’s commitment to maintaining a positive and collaborative working relationship with CUPE Local 104. This collaboration aims to ensure that employees receive the necessary support to perform their duties effectively and deliver the highest level of service to the Canadian public.
