For those who may not know, the British Isles refers to a collection of islands off the northwest coast of Europe, including the islands of Great Britain, Ireland, the Isle of Man, and over six thousand smaller islands. Within this region are nations with centuries of history, tradition, and artistry—England, Scotland, Wales, and the north of Ireland—each with their own distinct cultural identity. At Folklorama, the Pavilion takes all of that richness, blends it seamlessly, and serves it up in an unforgettable performance.
In over 35 years of attending Folklorama shows and events, I can confidently say this Pavilion’s performance lives in rarefied air—the upper echelons of what cultural showcase entertainment can be. If there were a Hall of Fame for pavilions, the Pavilion would not just be inducted—they’d be sitting proudly in the front row, shining as an example of what happens when talent, culture, and heart converge.
One of the biggest reasons for their elite standing this year? The extraordinary roster of performers. This Pavilion boasts the reigning two-time World Champion of Dance as their male youth ambassador—a feat so remarkable it’s hard to fully grasp its significance in the Folklorama setting. Not to be outdone, the female youth ambassador is also a finalist in the world of dance competitions, an achievement that is virtually unprecedented.

And they were far from alone in the spotlight. The stage was filled with dancers whose timing was so impeccable and movements so fluid that you felt transported—swept from the rugged highlands of Scotland to the lyrical landscapes of Ireland, onward to the historic castles of Wales, and through the vibrant cities of the United Kingdom. The choreography was a masterclass in precision and artistry, blending traditional steps with a modern energy that kept the audience completely engaged.
Among the many young talents, one stood out—a prodigy in the making who happens to be the younger brother of the world champion. Watching him perform was like seeing the future unfold before your eyes; it’s clear this Pavilion is set up for decades of continued excellence.
At the heart of it all is their world-class choreographer. Watching her work, even in moments off-stage, was like watching a maestro conduct an orchestra. Every gesture carried purpose, every correction brought the dancers closer to perfection. This is the reason her dance studio enjoys global recognition and produces world champions—the results were evident in every step and turn of the performance.

Visually, the cultural attire was a feast for the eyes. Vibrant tartans, intricate patterns, and rich fabrics gave the audience a sense of life throughout early Europe, both in modern times and in centuries past. The colours danced under the stage lights just as vividly as the performers themselves, adding depth and authenticity to the storytelling on stage.
But it wasn’t just about what happened on stage. From the moment you walk through the doors, the hospitality of the volunteers is unmatched. Pavilion ambassadors, volunteers, and hosts greet you with genuine warmth. One hostess—originally from Saskatchewan, and possibly a future Blue and Gold Fan—delivered charm with a smile and even a playful joke or two, making everyone feel right at home.
Adding a touch of whimsy to the evening was a gentleman dressed as a leprechaun, a beloved figure who has been part of this Pavilion since its inception decades ago. Overflowing with knowledge, he was the perfect guide for those curious about the cultural displays. Visitors walked away with surprising tidbits—like the fact that Tom Jones is from Wales or the origins of the world-famous New Year’s Eve song, Auld Lang Syne.

And then there was the food. Traditional fare that warms the soul was served alongside a delightfully refreshing carbonated drink, infused with just the right amount of fruit for a lasting, pleasant taste. This was cuisine that didn’t just nourish—it completed the cultural experience.
Of course, no Pavilion would be complete without the unmistakable wail of bagpipes and the proud sway of kilts. These moments brought a rush of authenticity, grounding the evening in traditions that have been passed down for generations.
The evening’s host was another highlight—a man who could moonlight as a stand-up comedian. His quick wit and perfectly timed humor kept the audience laughing between acts, but when he picked up the microphone to sing, he revealed an unexpectedly brilliant voice.
And then came the band. Oh my goodness—the band. You would be forgiven for thinking this group of musicians had been performing together for decades. They were tight, polished, and utterly professional, with a sound so rich it occasionally felt like we were at a full-scale concert. At times, they evoked the soaring power and precision of rock legends like Journey, yet always kept the heart of the island’s tradition alive in their music.
Much credit goes to the musical director, who curated a score that was pitch-perfect for the evening—balancing energy and emotion, tradition and innovation. Every note, every beat, every swell of melody seemed to align perfectly with the atmosphere in the room.
And that’s really the magic of this Pavilion. You come to Folklorama expecting to be entertained, but rarely do you find a Pavilion so exceptional that you leave with the experience etched into your memory. This was one of those rare gems—unforgettable, inspiring, and utterly satisfying from start to finish.
This Pavilion is the kind of show you could watch night after night and never grow tired of. Every detail is fine-tuned, every performer deeply committed, every element carefully crafted to deliver an experience that feels larger than life. It’s no exaggeration to say this is an 11 out of 10 performance—something so far beyond expectations that numbers barely do it justice.

What’s perhaps most astonishing is that this world-class performance comes from a mix of dedicated volunteers and seasoned professionals. The blend of heart, skill, and community pride is the secret ingredient that makes this Pavilion not just great, but truly exceptional.
From the coordinators to the choreographers, from the musicians to the youngest dancers, every single person involved deserves the highest praise. They have created not just a show, but a cultural experience—one that embodies the spirit of the Isles while standing proudly as one of Folklorama’s most dazzling highlights.
If you haven’t yet visited the pavilion this year, do yourself a favour and go. Bring friends, bring family, and prepare yourself for a night that will leave you smiling long after the final bow. This is what Folklorama is all about: celebrating culture at the highest possible level and sharing it with the world.
