1 Year Anniversary Of Terrorist Attack On US Capitol

January 6th Marks The 1 Year Anniversary Of The Terrorist Attack On The US Capitol Building

January 6, 2021, will be known as the day a sitting US President incited an attack on his own country. Former President Donald Trump and many of the Republican Party members abdicated their duties to serve and protect the American people.

For four years the Trump administration held democracy hostage and lacked the decency and decorum expected of the Oval Office and that of the Commander in Chief. The betrayal of his oath of office, incitement of a deadly insurrection, racist rhetoric, tens of thousands of lies, intimidation, corruption and calls for anarchy, were standard practices for the disgraced President.

Under Donald Trump, the United States lost its standing in the world and its seat at the table where key decisions were made that shaped foreign policies. World leaders called the terror attack on the Capitol Building disgraceful and condemn the senseless acts of violence, President Donald Trump did little to stop it. In fact, he told the terrorists he loved them and blamed the Democrats for stealing the election.

As more details continue to emerge about the disgraceful president’s state of mind and unwillingness to call off the terrorist attack, Americans are getting first-hand details about the events leading up to the insurrection. The January 6th bipartisan committee has been sifting through a treasure trove of documents, emails and text messages of the crime and their coconspirators.

Trump was never fit to serve as Commander in Chief of the world’s most powerful country, army and economy. The members of Trump’s party never had the will to put the country over the party, and when they were given two opportunities to invoke the 25th amendment and remove him from office, they declined to do so.

The terrorist attack on the US Capitol building was preventable, but Trump refused to call up the national guard or issue a military directive to protect the Capitol and members of Congress for hours. In the summer of June 2020, Trump called up thousands of law enforcement officers, the national guard and the military rolled into D.C with tanks and snipers perched on buildings for the Black Lives Matter peaceful march.

The world watched in astonishment as law enforcement officers opened the gates and escorted terrorists into the Capitol building and paused to take selfies. America has always been a divided country and Trump knew exactly how to use its division to benefit himself at the destruction of the country.

Today’s anniversary will be mourned by every American that sat back and watched the horror unfold at the Capitol Building and felt helpless. Today should be a stark reminder that democracy won over terrorism and the world’s most powerful nation was moments from being overthrown by homegrown terrorists.
