US is alarmingly close to full-scale COVID lockdown as over 90 million Americans are still unvaccinated.

The average number of new cases reported each day within the United States nearly doubled in the past week, with the number of hospitalizations increasing in many states, the need to get vaccinated is at its highest. The surge of cases is mainly coming from states that are pro-Trump with Republican Governors. These states also happen to have the lowest vaccination rates within the country.
As of yesterday, 58% of eligible Americans have at least one dose of the vaccine and 50% of eligible Americans are fully vaccinated.
California, Texas, and Florida are leading the rise in COVID-19 numbers with the highest reported cases and deaths in America. California reported over 33,000 new cases over the weekend. Approximately one-third of all US COVID-19 cases reported last week came from Florida and Texas. The Florida outbreak, one of the worst outbreaks in the country right now broke records for hospitalization numbers with 10,207 people hospitalized.
“There are still about 90 million eligible Americans who are unvaccinated,” White House Covid-19 response coordinator Jeff Zients said. “And we need them to do their part, roll up their sleeves and get vaccinated. Each and every shot matters.”
The United States is unlikely to be sent back into another lockdown despite the rise in COVID-19 cases from the Delta variant. “I don’t think we’re going to see lockdowns,” Fauci said “I think we have enough of the percentage of people in the country – not enough to crush the outbreak – but I believe enough to not allow us to get into the situation we were in last winter.”
This Delta variant sent other countries like Australia, Russia, India, and New Zealand into a form of lockdown. Parts of Asia that were somewhat effective in containing the virus are now hot spots. As of now several cities in Japan are still under a state of emergency, parts of Australia have released plans on reopening and Portugal reopened on August 1st.
With the announcement of Canada opening the border to allow fully vaccinated U.S. citizens and permanent residents back into the country on August 9, with plans to ease travel restrictions for fully vaccinated visitors in September.
U.S. Travel is not happy with this news. “Every day that our borders remain closed further delays our industry’s recovery, causing greater damage to the millions of Americans whose livelihoods depend on travel. The continued closure of the Canadian border alone costs the U.S. economy $1.5 billion in potential travel exports each month,” said Barnes. “Given the strong vaccination rates on both sides of the border, it is possible to safely reopen to our No. 1 source market for international visitors. Land travel accounted for more than half of all overnight visits to the U.S. by Canadians pre-pandemic, generating significant travel exports that support vital American jobs.”
Canadians are advised to be cautious when travelling into the United States especially in the areas where COVID-19 is at the highest. As American right-wing politicians, anti-vaxxers and delusional tv pundits continue their war science, the Delta Variant will also continue to spread. This ideology will lead to a high level of attrition to the American population, one that is self-inflicted and avoidable.
