In a disturbing display of spiritual confusion, reports have emerged of a group identifying themselves as “Christians,” including former members of First Church, who organized a fast and prayer session. But instead of seeking healing, repentance, or unity, their reported purpose was to spiritually target the unaliving of Pastor Gino Jennings. This shocking misuse of fasting and prayer stands in direct contradiction to the teachings of Christ and reveals the deep spiritual blindness that grips many in today’s religious world. Pastor Jennings, known globally for preaching holiness without compromise, has long challenged sin both inside and outside the church. His firm stand on truth has drawn both admiration and fierce opposition, yet it is that very truth which exposes hypocrisy wherever it hides.
Fasting is a sacred discipline ordained by God, meant to humble the flesh, draw believers closer to Him, and produce repentance and spiritual clarity. The prophet Joel declared, “Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning” (Joel 2:12). Jesus warned that fasting is not to be done for show or selfish gain: “When ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance… but thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face” (Matthew 6:16–17). To use fasting as a means of vengeance or spiritual assault is not righteousness—it is witchcraft disguised in religious garments. True fasting does not aim to destroy others; it aims to crucify the flesh and destroy the sin within oneself.
The name Christian was never self-proclaimed. Scripture records that “the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch” (Acts 11:26). It was a name given to those whose lives reflected the humility, purity, and holiness of Jesus Christ. Yet today, many wear the name “Christian” while living in rebellion against His teachings. To call oneself a Christian while wishing death upon another, especially a servant of God, is to commit spiritual hypocrisy of the highest order. True Christians love their enemies, pray for their persecutors, and intercede for the lost, just as Jesus taught when He said, “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you” (Matthew 5:44).
Those who fast and pray for destruction reveal hearts ruled not by the Spirit of God but by hatred and envy. The Apostle John wrote, “Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him” (1 John 3:15). Hatred is not holiness—it is the seed of spiritual death. Those who cloak their bitterness in the language of religion are no different from the Pharisees who plotted against Jesus while claiming to uphold God’s law.
While some misuse fasting for evil, others misuse the pulpit. Across the world, countless false prophets have turned ministry into merchandise, robbing sincere believers of both their money and their faith. They twist Scripture to enrich themselves, demanding so-called “seed offerings” for miracles and manipulating members through guilt and fear. They shame those who cannot give more, as though salvation could be purchased with currency. But the Word of God declares, “Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the Lord” (Jeremiah 23:1), and again, “Through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you” (2 Peter 2:3). These deceivers live lavishly off the sweat of their congregations, driving luxury cars, building mansions, and flaunting designer clothing while preaching to the poor about contentment and sacrifice. This hypocrisy is not the Gospel; it is greed dressed in priestly robes. And God is not mocked.
To those who fasted for harm, to those who profit from the pulpit, and to all who have lost sight of holiness, there is still time to repent. The Lord declared, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven” (2 Chronicles 7:14). Repentance is not merely saying “I’m sorry.” It is a complete turning away from sin—away from jealousy, greed, hypocrisy, and false religion—and a return to the simplicity of the Gospel: faith in Christ, obedience to His Word, and love for one another.
Pastor Gino Jennings has never wavered from preaching the undiluted truth of God’s Word. Whether people love him or hate him, the message remains unchanged: holiness is right, sin is wrong, and every soul must give an account to God. Those who misuse fasting and those who exploit the flock are two sides of the same coin, both driven by self and rebellion against truth. But this is not a call to condemnation—it is a call to correction and repentance. Let every believer examine themselves. Let every pastor search their motives. Let every so-called Christian return to the Scriptures and remember the commandment: “Be ye holy; for I am holy” (1 Peter 1:16).
True Christianity is not found in titles, emotions, or ceremonies. It is found in living like Christ—in holiness, humility, and love. Anything less is counterfeit. Now is the time for the church to awaken, to repent, and to return to the faith once delivered to the saints. God is calling His people out of hypocrisy and back into righteousness. The hour is late, and judgment begins at the house of God. Let every soul that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity, lay aside deception, and walk in the light. Only then will the church truly reflect the glory of the One it claims to serve.
