My Daughter Kept Me Motivated While I Wrote The Price of Honor—Nash Ramji

Sometimes, finding family members who share our dreams can be challenging. But UK-based novelist, Nash Ramji, was fortunate to find someone in his family to spur him in his down moments while working on his novels.  

 “The first book took five years from start to finish,” the newly published author told The Daily Scrum News. “I did put it on one side for nearly a year as I had become frustrated at various times.” He added, “my daughter kept me motivated, and so I carried on.”

It was easy finding the inspiration for his debut novel as the author tapped into his legal encounters to find the impulse for his writing. He said, “I was a magistrate and had a case before me on the subject of honor killing, which inspired me to write on the topic.”

With professional training in law, Nash Ramji had to create a delicate balance between the legal and the literary while he worked on his novel. While he has succeeded in letting his creative juices flow, the author stated, “it’s difficult” working as a writer and solicitor. “During the pandemic, I was at home as the office was closed, so I put the time to good use. I wrote the sequel (The Price of Honor-Seeking Justice) in 11 months! Much to my surprise,” Nash said. However, “finding the time to sit and write is difficult at the moment with work being busy.”

Nash Ramji is excited about the reception his novels have received so far. He stated: “reception has been good. Reviews on Amazon and my publisher’s website, Austin Macauley.”

For those eager to know what The Price of Honor is about, the author revealed that the novel is about an “immigrant Muslim family from Pakistan settled in Leicester, U.K. They have five daughters, and each one is married off at the age of 16. Saleena, one of the main characters, gets trapped in a horrendous marriage marred by domestic violence and escapes. But sadly, the happiness she finds is short-lived. She is murdered along with her African boyfriend. The couple had planned to marry in Uganda after the divorce was finalized.”

Nash Ramji’s novels also focus on “sexual orientation” and estrangement as Abdel, Saleeena’s brother, is removed from his family due to his reckless gambling and eventual success at the lottery. The sequel to The Price of Honor dwells on a sister’s commitment to finding “justice for Saleena.”

Nash Ramji’s novels hold “twists and turns, legal knowledge and skills, and courtroom drama.” And while the writer plans a trilogy for this novel, he said, “I have an idea where it will end.” How will it all end?
