Winnipeg mayoral candidate and Voyage Funeral Home owner Mike Vogiatzakis has publicly responded after allegations made online by a former employee began circulating across social media earlier this week.
In a statement posted online, Vogiatzakis strongly denied the sexual assault and workplace misconduct allegations, calling the claims false and rejecting any suggestion of wrongdoing.
The allegations have generated significant public discussion online as Winnipeg’s municipal election campaign begins to intensify ahead of the October 28 vote, where residents will head to the polls to choose the city’s next mayor. The situation quickly drew attention across local social media platforms, with some residents calling for further scrutiny while others urged caution until any claims are formally investigated or tested through the courts.
As of publication, Winnipeg Police Service has not publicly announced any criminal charges related to the matter, and no court findings have been made regarding the allegations referenced in the online posts.
The situation also comes during a period of heightened public attention surrounding allegations involving political figures in Winnipeg, including recent sexual assault charges laid against current city councillor Russ Wyatt. Wyatt has publicly denied those allegations, which remain before the courts and unproven.
Under Canadian law, allegations involving criminal conduct remain unproven unless established in court. At this time, no judicial ruling has been made concerning the claims involving Vogiatzakis.
