BLACK CANADIANS — IT’S TIME TO UNITE AND MAKE HISTORY

Today I bring you a story that isn’t just about political process — it’s about purpose, power, and the people demanding justice.

On behalf of Black People United for Change, a heartfelt thank you goes to MPP Kristyn Wong-Tam. Not only did they submit our petition at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, they made sure it was highlighted in their newsletter — a bold show of support at a time when Black Canadians need every platform, every mic, and every ally to step up.

But make no mistake: this movement is for us, by us.

✊🏾 STEP ONE: PEACEFUL PROTEST

From city streets to government lawns, we showed up — strong, visible, and unapologetically Black.

📝 STEP TWO: THE PETITION

Drafted by @blackpeopleunitedfor and amplified by powerful voices like Carlos Morgan, IUIC Toronto, Nessa St. Louis, myself, and of course, MPP Wong-Tam — the petition makes clear that we’re not asking, we’re demanding.

📣 NEXT STOP: HOUSE OF COMMONS — SEPTEMBER 18th

Circle the date. Mark your calendar. On September 18th, NDP MP Gord Johns will rise in the federal Parliament to present this petition. What are we asking for? Nothing less than justice:

  • A full acknowledgment and formal apology from Canada for its historic and ongoing harm to Black Canadians

  • Real, enforceable anti-Black racism legislation, including stronger hate crime protections and institutional accountability

  • A nationwide effort to dismantle systemic racism across policing, education, healthcare, housing, employment — every corner where discrimination hides in plain sight

🔥 WHY THIS MATTERS

This isn’t just another symbolic gesture or one-day headline. This is a legal document, submitted into the federal record, demanding action.

But petitions don’t work without the people.
We need Black unity now more than ever. From Scarborough to St. James Town, Montreal to Moncton — this fight is all of ours.

Black unity is how we shut down streets, Black unity is how we shut down injustice, and Black unity is how we build a future where our children won’t be marching for the same damn things we are.

So let’s stop saying “they should do something.”
We are “they.”
